-Sri Lankan Folk Music-
Each country has its own style of music. Sri Lankan folk music holds a special place among such existing genres. In fact, there are some number of factors that make it unique.
Folk music was born among the people. So Sri Lankan folk music was also born and developed in the Hela village. In those days, the villagers sang songs to express their feelings of loneliness, anxiety and tiredness, and that songs had different flavors.

They were also differentiated in terms of the occupations in which they were employed, such as the songs sung in connection with the mining industry, the songs sung while travelling in loaded carts, and the songs sung while harvesting. Another unique feature of Sri Lankan folk songs is that the villager has portrayed the mood of the occasion through the relevant singing. For an example, the bitterness and roughness of the mining industry is reflected in the singing of the villager. In the singing of the villager who protects the paddy field, the anxiety and tiredness and loneliness that he feels at that moment can be clearly seen.
As another special feature of folk songs, they were sung both in a rhythmic and a non-rhythmic way. Strokes are variants of songs sung with rhythm. That is, they can be sung on a melody, set to a specific tune. Songs related to paddy cutting, Lee Keli songs and songs sung during the Olida games can be included under it. The other way, that is, non-rhythmic, is the kind of songs those were sung without rhythm, which cannot be sung to such a specific tune. "Teeka Seepada", Songs sung during wasp honey cutting and lamentations are good examples. Therefore, Sri Lankan folk music leads a major role among all the folk music genres around the world.
